CLOSING YOUR DEBIT ACCOUNT
Upon leaving or graduating from the University, you may choose to close your account by submitting the “Request to Close GOCard Debit Account“ form. Account close transactions will be processed for the balance on any personal GOCard accounts, including Debit Dollars, Payroll Deduction account, and Laundry & Print account. It excludes Departmental Accounts and per-semester accounts such as Flex Dollars. Balances under $25 will not be refunded. (A $25 processing fee will be deducted from your account before the balance is refunded.) If there are charges on an existing Student Account, they may be paid before refunds are issued. Refunds will be issued by check and processed within 4-6 weeks of request. The check is made payable to the cardholder only. Closed accounts may not be reactivated for sixty (60) days.
Effective January 1, 2012
Inactivity Fee and Abandoned Property. If you do not use your Debit account for a continuous period of twelve (12) months (that is, no purchases have been made and/or no money has been added to your account, during that time period, and you have not otherwise communicated in writing to our office concerning the Debit account, then Georgetown will assess your account a dormant account fee of $5 per month thereafter, as long as your account remains open and inactive.
IF NO ACTIVITY HAS OCCURRED ON YOUR CARD AND YOU HAVE NOT OTHERWISE COMMUNICATED IN WRITING WITH US CONCERNING THE DEBIT DOLLARS ON YOUR GOCARD FOR A CONTINUOUS PERIOD OF MORE THAN THIRTY-SIX (36) MONTHS, UNDER D.C. LAW YOUR DEBIT DOLLARS WILL BE DEEMED ABANDONED PROPERTY THAT GEORGETOWN MUST DELIVER TO THE D.C. GOVERNMENT. WHEN THE VALUE OF YOUR ACCOUNT EQUALS OR EXCEEDS $50 AND GEORGETOWN HAS AN ADDRESS FOR YOU THAT IS NOT DOCUMENTED TO BE INACCURATE, GEORGETOWN WILL SEND NOTICE TO THAT ADDRESS BEFORE DELIVERING THE FUNDS TO THE D.C. GOVERNMENT. IF GEORGETOWN HAS DELIVERED YOUR DEBIT DOLLARS TO THE D.C. GOVERNMENT, YOU MUST SEEK THE FUNDS FROM THE D.C. GOVERNMENT DIRECTLY.
